About the Organizer (TRTI)

The Textile Research and Technology Institute (TRTI) is one of the most important research institutes of the National Research Centre (NRC). It deals with the national economy by conducting product- and customer-oriented research in all fields related to the textile sector. The TRTI was established in 1959, 3 years after launching the NRC, represented by a unit of dyes and dyeing, followed by another unit for textile chemistry in 1961. In 1981, the TRTI was developed to include four laboratories (named later, in 1988, as departments), namely:

  • Spinning and Weaving Engineering Department,
  • Proteinic and Man-made Fibers Department,
  • Preparation and Finishing of Cellulosic Fibers Department, and
  • Dyeing, Printing and Textile Dyes Intermediate.

Aiming to complete our mission, the TRTI established its fifth department in 2004; namely the Clothing and Knitting Industry Researches Department.

Manpower

The TRTI has 120 research staff members (including professors, assistant professors, and researchers), in addition to a number of research assistants (B.Sc. and M.Sc. holders). Some of the research staff members have been awarded the Nile prizes, the State prizes for appreciation and encouragement, as well as the NRC prizes for appreciation and encouragement prizes. Some distinguished scientists of our research staff have the D.Sc. The recognition to the TRTI research staff has been extended to receiving international prizes and medals of excellence.

Infrastructure

The TRTI is well equipped with the latest equipment to conduct basic and applied research along with the related instruments for analysis and testing. The institute has its central laboratory, which served the research staff to achieve their research activity. The facilities in the central laboratory of the TRTI served the research staff from other institutes in the NRC as well as specialists from other academic institutions and industrial sectors.

Additionally, the TRTI has a center of excellence “Center of Excellence for Innovative Textile Technologies and Products”, beside the “Knowledge and Technology Alliance in the Field of the Component and Deepen the Gross Domestic Product in the Textile Industry”.

Work strategy

The work strategy of the TRTI is based on four components:
